Oocyte reception is an assisted reproduction technique that involves performing an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle using eggs from a donor rather than the woman who will carry the pregnancy (the recipient). During an oocyte reception cycle, the donor’s eggs are fertilized in the lab with sperm from either the recipient’s partner or a sperm bank, and the resulting embryos are then transferred to the recipient’s uterus. Oocyte reception is an assisted reproduction technique that allows a woman to receive oocytes from a donor to achieve pregnancy. The selection of donors is based on very strict medical criteria. Once her oocyte quality is confirmed, the donor undergoes hormonal treatment. Once the oocytes are obtained, they are inseminated in the laboratory with the male gamete. The embryos obtained are transferred to the uterus of the recipient woman.

HOW ARE OOCYTE DONORS SELECTED?
Oocyte donor selection is based on strict medical criteria. The legal framework governing this process includes the Assisted Reproduction Law (LIRA) and the Royal Decree on quality and safety standards for cell and tissue donation (RDLCYT). These laws emphasize the importance of anonymity, confidentiality, and the voluntary nature of donation.
According to the law, any woman between the ages of 18 and 34 in good physical and mental health who wishes to help others can be a donor. A thorough evaluation is conducted to ensure the donor is in optimal health and free of genetic, hereditary, or transmissible infectious diseases. This evaluation includes:
– A detailed personal and family medical history.
– Genetic screening for recessive diseases to identify polygenic or multifactorial conditions present in the family.
– Physical and gynecological exams, including transvaginal ultrasound to assess normalcy and count antral follicles, as well as blood tests, including a serological profile.
– A psychological evaluation through test and a personal interview.
HOW IS A OOCYTE DONOR MATCHED WITH A RECIPIENT?

WHAT DOES THE OOCYTES RECEPTION TREATMENT INVOLVE?
The oocytes recipient undergoes treatment to prepare the endometrium, ensuring it is receptive at the time of embryo transfer. This typically involves hormonal treatment, often with transdermal patches for 2 to 3 weeks, during which serial ultrasounds are performed to monitor endometrial growth.
Once the endometrium has reached the appropriate thickness, and the donor’s eggs have been retrieved and fertilized, the embryos are transferred to the recipient’s uterus.

Oocyte reception offers the highest success rates among assisted reproduction techniques, with pregnancy rates exceeding 80% per transfer.
Embryos resulting from this process have a high implantation potential, as their quality is directly related to the quality of the donor’s eggs, which is typically higher due to the donor’s younger age.
